Urban Engineering Youth Shelters Provide Perfect ‘Hang-Out’ For Teens

With the long, hot and balmy summer nights just around the corner, providing young people with a safe and regulated area to congregate will be an important tool in helping to reduce levels of anti-social behaviour and improving community safety.
Installing a Youth Shelter can result in a number of positive effects both for young people and the wider community, with levels of crime, disruptive and anti-social behaviour being reduced and relationships between teens, local residents and authorities becoming greatly improved.
Popular with local councils and in accordance with The Crime and Disorder Act 1998, Youth Shelters can provide teenagers with a designated area of their own to meet and socialise with friends, which can be easily policed, rather than meeting on street corners, outside takeaways or bus stops.
The problems commonly associated with bored teenagers has resulted in the production of a good practice guide, supported by Thames Valley Police, outlining the need for Youth Shelters as a means of combating disruptive behaviour by youngsters. One ensuing recommendation is to design and install a Youth Shelter in consultation with young people, enabling them to feel involved in the project from the start and hopefully lead to long-term use of the facility.
Urban Engineering has worked closely with a number of local authorities in the past, resulting in having a comprehensive range of Youth Shelters designed to meet a number the modern urban environments. With an in-house drawing team, Urban Engineering can also design bespoke Youth Shelters to meet the requirements of the site or local young people, resulting in a flexible and individual product, expertly fitted by our experienced installation teams.
Manufactured from materials designed to stand up to misuse and vandalism, Youth Shelters can be finished in a wide range of cool and striking colours.
