British Gypsum supports new animal centre
British Gypsum is helping a local animal rescue organisation to
provide a desperately needed nursing and care area at their new
centre in the middle of the Cumbrian Fells.
Eden Animal Rescue, who care for and treat abandoned, rescued and
sick animals at their new centre, a converted former cattery and
kennels at Hardendale, near Shap in Cumbria, needed to create a
warm, controlled-temperature environment to aid post-operative
recovery, and as a haven area for sick and quarantined animals.
British Gypsum’s Kirkby Thore works, which has had a close
relationship with the Rescue organisation for many years, was quick
to respond to an appeal for help, donating the 90m2 or so of high
performance thermal lining board needed to completely line the new
area. The Gyproc ThermaLine boards, which comprise Gyproc
plasterboard laminated to high performance insulating foam, will
significantly cut down heat loss through the building walls, and
help to maintain a steady, comfortable temperature for the animals.
Elaine Brown, a Customer Service Advisor at Kirkby Thore, who works
as a volunteer for the animal centre in her spare time, was
delighted with the company’s response. “Eden Animal Rescue has
helped us out in the past by taking and caring for feral cats that
used to live in and around the works. It’s great that we have been
able to repay their help in this way. Everyone has been very
supportive, even down to our haulage contractor, W. H. Malcolm, who
has agreed to deliver the boards free of charge”.
Douglas Kinnear, Operations Manager at the Kirby Thore works added,“
British Gypsum is a very long established company in this area and
has built up close relationships with the local community. We are
always keen to give this kind of support if we can.”
