ISG Jackson special projects creates a masterpiece at Wysing Arts Centre
ISG Jackson Special Projects is well on
track to deliver a new £1.3 million purpose built studio block
at the Wysing Arts Centre in Bourn, Cambridge. The centre
provides a comprehensive range of resources for artists at its
11-acre site and the new two-storey studio block has been
carefully designed to enhance its location and maximise the
amount of natural light coming into the modern studio
accommodation.
Sustainability was a key issue for the client in the
construction of the new studio block and ISG Jackson Special
Projects is utilising an off-site manufactured timber frame
method within the new building. Externally, the building uses a
number of complimentary materials to its façade, with grey
brick, curtain walling and Douglas Fir timber louvers, with the
contractor also installing an open wooded balcony area on the
first floor.
The studio block features under floor heating throughout to
allow for uncluttered walls and comprises a large education
room, a media studio, a large L-shaped art studio and work live
studio with a bed-sitting area, designed specifically for short
stay live work occupancy. Six art studios of varying sizes are
located to the first floor of the building, which can be
accessed via a lift. ISG Jackson Special Projects will
additionally carry out a range of hard and soft landscaping
finishes externally, with the project scheduled for completion
in summer 2007.
Michael Manning, divisional director for ISG Jackson Special
Projects, commented: "The new studio block at Wysing Arts Centre
is set to become a landmark building within the region,
combining sustainable credentials with an elegant form and
purpose built design. The company has built up extensive
knowledge and expertise within modern methods of construction,
and we work closely with our clients to provide the highest
quality project delivery solutions across a comprehensive range
of build options.”
