When East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service came to
renovate the fire station at Hove the oil tank serving the station’s
heating system posed a problem. The old steel tank was inside the
station’s buildings; not an ideal arrangement and it was taking up
valuable space.
The solution was to use a Tuffa FireStop 10,000 litre tank sited
next to the buildings. As the FireStop includes its own fireproofing
within the tank’s double skin this meant, apart from a new concrete
base, no builder’s work was required to ensure that the installation
met Building Regulation requirements. The fire resistance comes from
a three layer sandwich of fire resistant and insulating material
that is fitted between the tank and an outer cover. This gives a
warranted and tested fire resistance of 30 to 60 minutes. The tank
includes contents gauges and an overfill alarm within its cover.
The new tank was installed by Roseland Heating of Eastbourne.
