Simmtronic - Wins another major lighting controls contract at
Canary Wharf
Simmtronic has been awarded a contract from PIP
Electrics Ltd to supply fully addressable lighting
controls for 20 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf. Every
luminaire in the building will be controlled under DALI
protocol by Simmtronic systems. All emergency luminaires
will incorporate DALI control inverters to enable the
lighting control system to automatically test the
emergency installation via the DALI protocol.
This building is currently under construction and due
for completion in Autumn 2008. Designed by Kohn Pedersen
Fox, it offers approximately 300,000ft2 of office space
above ground plus ancillary space. Prudential Retirement
Income Ltd has taken long leasehold interests in this
building, and an American investment bank has taken an
occupational lease on it to consolidate its three
current London offices into a single headquarters
facility by early 2009.
Hilson Moran, the M & E Consultant has specified an
energy saving lighting control scheme, predominantly
presence based and with daylight linking on the
perimeter rows of luminaires. The offices and trading
floors have a combination of recessed modular fittings
and suspended linear direct/indirect luminaires. For the
recessed modular fittings, Simmtronic’s nine output DALI
LCMs are being configured one per port to eliminate
sub-addressing. These DALI controls feature ballast and
lamp failure error feedback to alert facilities and
maintenance staff to replacement requirements. The
suspended luminaires incorporate a linear lighting
control scheme, fed from one end, and will therefore
have DALI Hub LCMs with sub-addressing of individual
luminaires.
Simmtronic has established an enviable reputation for
high-reliability lighting controls with a proven track
record in handling large projects to demanding
specification. It has completed more than 700 commercial
projects, providing future-proof, fully addressable
lighting control systems for many of the UK’s largest
and most prestigious corporate developments and has
supplied many of the largest DALI projects to date.
