ISG Jackson has been awarded a circa £8 million project by Turnstone
Estates to build a mixed-use development in Chelmsford, Essex.
Occupying the site of the former Army & Navy pub on the edge of the
town centre, the 1.4 acre plot will see the construction of an 81
bed Travelodge hotel, 12 residential apartments and approximately
26,000 sq ft of retail/restaurant space.
The steel frame structure has a maximum four-storey height at the
prominent Parkway intersection, with a range of architectural
finishes to the building’s façade, including curtain walling,
polished metal cladding and brickwork. The scheme is designed to be
highly sustainable and features a rainwater harvesting system and
incorporates a photo voltaic installation at roof level to generate
electricity.
Retail units on the ground floor will vary in size from 500 sq ft to
10,000 sq ft in size, and popular restaurant chain, Frankie &
Benny’s, is already a confirmed tenant at the development. The 12
apartments occupy the first and second floors of the new building
and all come in two-bedroom configurations, with balconies and high
specification finishes. The apartments have been designed to be
environmentally efficient and will conform to an EcoHomes ‘Very
Good’ standard.
ISG Jackson will also create a large car park at the rear of the
development, with the project scheduled for completion by early
2009. Phillip Allerton, director of ISG Jackson's Living division,
commented: "The striking design of this new mixed-use development in
Chelmsford highlights the town’s ambition to enhance the built
environment at this busy intersection. Providing a range of new
facilities and attracting key note leisure operators, the
development is expected to prove a highly popular destination within
Chelmsford.”
