Cool Energy - Ensures ice time for Eden skaters

Following a successful season last year, chiller rental specialist Cool Energy is once again providing the cooling for the Eden Project’s ice-rink in Cornwall.

The rink, which is situated near the Rainforest and Mediterranean biomes, is one of the most outstanding in the country and probably the only place in the world where visitors can go from ‘subzero to subtropical’.

Cool Energy was first called in two years ago to provide cooling. The ice-rink was such a success with locals and visitors that ice-skating is now an annual feature at the Eden Project and this season is will be open until February 2008.

Cool Energy has supplied a FOCS chiller from Climaveneta on a rental basis that offers the latest Class A energy efficiency ratings, non-ozone depleting refrigerants, an high COP rating and low noise Eurovent conformity.

“The Eden Project is taking advantage of one of our most energy efficient chillers that fits in with their eco-philosophy but at the same time provides them with a very high quality ice-build,” comments Russell Wilson, ICS Cool Energy’s Director.

“Our chillers help reduce power usage on site, CO² emissions and ensures power costs are reduced including diesel fuel for temporary generators used at seasonal events,” adds Russell.

The chiller is operating at -12ºC to preserve the quality of the ice on a 24/7 basis. Any nicks or damage caused during the day by exuberant skaters is repaired overnight by reconstructing new layers of ice.

Ice rinks by their very nature are a critical cooling application requiring precise, resilient and efficient equipment maintained by skilled engineers. As a result, Cool Energy’s own fully qualified service engineers will be maintaining the Eden Project’s rink throughout the rental period, ensuring that its equipment operates effectively.

Throughout the winter, Cool Energy will be providing a total of 42 temporary ice rinks with rental chillers through the UK and Europe.
