Carillion has marked a project milestone on a pair of landmark
office blocks in Gateshead by conducting a ‘topping out’
ceremony.
Carillion has built two, £30million landmark office blocks, 11
storeys-high with two levels of undercroft parking, linked
reception area and landscaping, adjacent to the Baltic Art
Centre.
The ‘topping out’ ceremony was carried out on Wednesday,
December 12, to mark the laying of the final piece of concrete
in the office floor plates on the 10th floor. The project
started in March 2006 and is expected to be completed at the end
of June 2008.
Martin Nunn, Divisional Director for Carillion Regional Building
East presented clients, City & Northern and Robertson with a
silver trowel to mark the occasion.
Martin said: “We’re delighted to mark this important milestone
in this development with our clients.”
Elliott Ward of City & Northern said: “We have enjoyed a long
working relationship with Carillion and it is fitting that they
are building what is our largest and most high profile office
building to date.”
Bill Robertson, Executive Chairman, said: “I am pleased to
attend today’s ceremony and represent Robertson Property which
is developing the site in partnership with City & Northern. The
partnership between Robertson Property and City & Northern is
flourishing, Last year the two companies completed the first
phase of Blue Sky Way, a 35,000 sq ft office development at
Monkton Business Park. I am also delighted that the Robertson
relationship with Carillion continues to go from
strength-to-strength following the completion last year of our
£50million joint venture to design and build 5 schools for the
Redcar and Cleveland area.”
“Baltic Place will become iconic landmarks for the area and for
the occupiers it will create a modern, vibrant, working
environment with some of the best views anywhere in the North of
England, across to Newcastle. This development shows what can be
achieved when looking at regeneration within a riverside
environment. Robertson has made a commitment to the local area
and through our ongoing partnership with City & Northern we will
continue, via our shared land bank, to develop the local area
for some time to come”.
