ISG Totty Building has been awarded an £860K
project, by Kirklees School Services Ltd, to build a virtual science
laboratory and new ICT suite at Salendine Nook High School in
Huddersfield. The two-storey extension will provide the specialist
technology college with flexible, state-of-the-art resources and
further enhance teaching facilities at the highly regarded and
consistently oversubscribed school.
The virtual science laboratory is essentially a purpose-built
demonstration facility, with interactive whiteboards and a fully
equipped laboratory bench, enabling the teacher to carry out
experiments in front of the students. Located on the ground floor of
the new extension, this multi-use space also features computer
workstations around its perimeter.
Two new preparation rooms, one on each floor, will also be formed
within the extension, which will service the school’s existing
laboratories and provide a secure storage area for chemicals. At
first floor level, ISG Totty Building will create and fit out a
large open plan ICT suite. Work on constructing the new steel frame
extension has now commenced, with completion scheduled for spring
2008.
Paul Clarkson, regional construction director at ISG Totty Building,
commented: “The education sector continues to prove an exceptionally
buoyant market, with ISG securing an increasing volume of
enhancement and upgrade schemes at key regional institutions.”
