Fläkt Woods has recently completed an air
conditioning upgrade project for Baxter Healthcare, Northampton,
where medical products are stored in the client’s National
Distribution Centre. Following an inspection of the existing system,
Fläkt Woods proposed two EU Air Handling Units (AHUs) to replace the
units currently in use on site.
To ensure the client was able to store the products without
deterioration, Fläkt Woods was asked to propose a ventilation
solution that would provide not only heating (as the existing
units), but also offer controlled cooling, allowing the temperature
within the facility to be maintained within set limits.
To accompany the two AHU’s, Flakt Woods has also provided a cooling
coil for a third AHU together with a Climafläkt chiller to provide
chilled water to all three AHU’s. The main AHU works were
accompanied by the insulation of the ductwork system on site. This
was carried out from motorised high-level platforms and out normal
working hours, to avoid disruption to the working pattern within the
distribution centre.
Fläkt Woods prides itself in being able to offer a full range of
site services to support the product range. In this instance it was
delighted to be asked to offer a full supply and install package for
this important distribution plant. The offer included the
installation of 200m of mains 450A power supply integrated into the
site MCC panels, together with the supply and installation of a
450kW chiller, associated pipe work and the upgrading of the
existing Staefa control system, including the integration of the new
chillers.
Fläkt Woods undertook all final connections and commissioning of the
system. Service Manager for Fläkt Woods, Andrew Knight, noted, “It
is our expectation that the client is left excited by our works and
that the high expectations are exceeded. We take time to understand
our customers’ needs and aim to propose a solution tailored to
these. We are proud to carry out works on site, from a simple
bearing change to a full supply and install package similar to this
project for Baxter Heath Care”.
