Chubb Electronic Security’s video monitoring
centre in Gloucester has become the first of the UTC Fire & Security
businesses in the UK to attain the Silver Certificate as part of the
company’s world-renowned Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE)
quality programme. Chubb Electronic Security is part of UTC Fire &
Security, a unit of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).
ACE is a worldwide initiative, well-known in the aerospace and
defence industries, that recognises and rewards quality excellence.
It is designed to deliver improved value to customers by eliminating
wasteful processes and improving efficiencies across the video
monitoring business.
The ‘Silver’ level recognises a ‘step change’ within the business.
This includes achieving 100% conformity to all ‘critical to quality’
processes, reducing repeated customer complaints to zero, effective
control and management of all environmental health & safety risks,
and demonstrating consistent quality improvements to help the
business excel at customer service.
As Colin Walters, Head of Video Systems for Chubb explains: “ACE is
an internal quality programme that has real significance outside of
the business. It is an accepted and proven measure of the
improvements a business has made in ensuring it has the most robust
and efficient processes in place, and how these processes add
genuine value to our customer offering.
“It is a great credit to the team to be recognised, globally, for
the hard work they continue to do in making our monitoring business
one of the most successful not just in the UK but also the wider
EMEA region.”
Chubb’s monitoring operation has been at the forefront of the ACE
programme, attaining the ‘Qualification’ level in January 2005, and
‘Bronze’ 10 months later. A minimum ‘proving’ period of 18 months
had to elapse before being allowed to apply for Silver
accreditation.
“We now have a clear road map to attain a Gold symbolising ‘true
competitive excellence’ by Spring 2009,” Mr Walters concludes.
