Pettifer Construction - E-SAFE 100 reduces accidents
Following a successful launch with Pettifer
Construction, E- SAFE 100, a bespoke reporting and auditing
software, is set to become a powerful tool in an industry which
critically needs to address its health and safety issues.
29 workers have lost their lives in construction sites accidents
since April 2007, provisional figures show*. One in three
construction refurbishment sites inspected put the lives of
workers at risk and 244 sites were closed down by the Health and
Safety Executive**. The construction industry is the biggest in
Britain, employing over 2.2 million people, but it is also the
most dangerous.
Health and Safety can no longer be ignored
E-SAFE 100 has successfully increased the safety record for
Pettifer Construction UK over the past 12 months. Geoff Heppell,
pcm safety’s managing director said, “E-SAFE 100 is a great
advancement for the construction industry. For the first time we
have a system that provides accountability and transparency.
“Health and safety is a top priority for Petiffer Construction
and our employees have a right to know that they are working in
as safe an environment as possible. In light of the Corporate
Manslaughter Act*** coming into force in April next year, the
onus is now on directors to ensure that all the right reports
and procedures are in place to prevent accidents. More and more
of our clients are demanding a system such as this.”
The software is loaded onto a handheld PDA and taken with the
health and safety manager for his health and safety and
environmental inspection. He enters the findings directly into
the handheld. E-SAFE 100 records it and creates a database of
reports which can be emailed to the relevant people. If the
report is not carried out it sends an alert up the chain. The
system flags and resolves issues, preventing accidents.
