Hydroscape - Launch lazur water disinfection system
Lazur is an advanced disinfection system that deploys a
unique combination of ultraviolet and ultrasound in the
treatment of water. The simultaneous application of ultraviolet
radiation and ultrasonic/acoustic vibrations in water produces
powerful oxidants that are uniformly distributed in the water
volume and provide complete (99.999%) elimination (by complete
photo-chemical oxidation) of all micro-organisms (including
spores), viruses and protozoa at initial concentrations of up to
106 units/litre.
How it works
The ultrasonic transducer, located directly in the Ultraviolet
Radiation Chamber, causes the formation of short-lived miniscule
steam-gas bubbles in the water under low pressure. These bubbles
form around a nucleus that can either be spores of fungi or
bacteria. When the water is pressurised the bubbles ‘burst out’,
creating zones of high temperature and pressure, thus destroying
pathogenic organisms in the vicinity.
At the same time, free radicals, ozone, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)
and other active substances are generated in the bubbles under
‘harsh’ Ultraviolet radiation at 185 nm wavelength. Due to the
amount of bubbles and their tendency to burst, the free radicals
are uniformly mixed through the water and effectively destroy
remaining pathogenic organisms. In this case Ultraviolet
radiation essentially stimulates the disinfection action of the
free radicals. Power consumption
for this treatment is about 7-8W per m3/hour and service life of
the UV lamps is approximately 16,000 hours.
The ultrasonic transducer fitted inside the Ultraviolet chamber
also provides a cleaning action, preventing the build up of
biological films or chemical residue on the quartz sleeves of
the UV lamps.
Lazur has many advantages over other available UV systems
• Provides 6-log inactivation of micro-organisms (other systems
– 3-log).
• Provides effective inactivation of a wider range of
micro-organisms, including Legionellosis, Leptospirosis,
Hepatitis A and Cryptosporidium, together with more difficult to
destroy micro-organisms such as Aspergilis, Niger, Aspergilis
Glaucus and Giardia intestinalis.
• Reliable inactivation of UV-resistant micro-organisms through
ultrasound + UV destruction.
• Lazur UV lamps have long service life of 16,000 hours (other
systems – up to 10,000 hours).
• Lazur UV intensity reduction is only 5-10% after 10,000 hours
operation (other systems – 40-50% reduction).
• No accumulation of biological or chemical residue on the
quartz sleeves – continuous optimum UV intensity for reliable
disinfection (other systems use manual or automatic devices for
mechanical and chemical cleaning of sleeves).
• Destructs any particles of sludge and exposes micro-organisms
to UV and ultrasound treatment.
• More cost-effective in comparison to other available UV
systems.
In a recent preliminary study by the Australian Water Quality
Centre it was found the unit effectively removed 6 or 7-log of
E, coli, K, pneumoniae, and Ps.aeruginosa in water with a UVT of
80% and their report concludes: ‘it is recommended to progress
to the more detailed investigations initially outlined. We are
highly confident, should the unit perform similarly, that the
results would be most favourable’.
Lazur systems are available in flow rates from 0.5 m3/hour to
500m3/hour and higher flow rates through parallel set-up of
standard units.
