With an unrivalled reputation for
successfully delivering high profile healthcare schemes, the
Stockton-on-Tees office of international project management and
cost consultants, Faithful+Gould, has reached financial close on
the £118 million North Middlesex University Hospital PFI
project.
Working for the consortium, Bynorth - which includes Bouygues
Construction UK Ltd and Ecovert FM Ltd - Faithful+Gould is
undertaking the role of technical advisor. Over the past decade
Faithful+Gould has provided similar services in connection with
more than 15 healthcare projects totalling in excess of £4
billion, drawing on the availability of in-house specialist
experience.
The project will see the replacement of the older part of the
hospital’s existing estate to provide:
• An Emergency Care Centre including Adult and Children’s
Accident and Emergency, Emergency Imaging, including X-ray, CT
and MRI scanning and an Emergency Assessment and Admissions
Unit, equipped with 48 beds for short stay treatment.
• An Acute and Critical Care Centre, incorporating four main
theatres and a Critical Care Unit with 12 beds and 90 inpatient
surgical beds for acute care.
• A Diagnostic and Treatment Centre incorporating Day Theatres,
an Endoscopy Suite and a Planned Imaging Unit as well as an
outpatient department.
Jonathan Wilson a Consultant, from Faithful+Gould, said:
“The project is a significant improvement to the provision of
health care services in North Middlesex. The new facility, which
is to be built on the existing site, will replace a fragmented
existing estate which is generally in poor condition.
“The construction logistics are complex as the existing hospital
is required to be maintained in an operational condition
healthcare services and availability of car parking and public
transport links during the construction period.
“Personally, the most rewarding aspect of projects like this is
achieving financial close. The next objective that our team is
working towards with the consortium, is to achieve completion of
construction and occupation of the new building.”
Post financial close, Faithful+Gould will be providing a
construction monitoring service to the project funders, which
will include monitoring construction progress and certifying the
value of construction works. Upon completion of construction,
facilities management services will be delivered for a 32-year
concession period.
The project is expected to be completed and fully operational by
2011.
