Cembrit Blunn - Man made and cedar shingles
A range of man-made bitumen and natural cedar shingles is now
available from roofing specialist Cembrit Blunn to complement its
comprehensive roofing product offering. A common roofing solution in
Canada and North America, shingles are becoming ever more popular
across Europe and provide an attractive and versatile alternative to
traditional slates and tiles.
Popular on domestic dwellings and public buildings, shingles are
ideal for chalets, sheds, summerhouses, animal shelters and mobile
homes as well as conventional homes. Both cedar and Citadel bitumen
shingles offer a quality alternative to other roofing materials for
projects with demanding or individual requirements.
Cembrit Blunn import Eastern White cedar shingles from Canada where
they have a long history of use. They offer a fine, even grain, low
density and are light weight and robust, making them very easy to
work with. The shingles are cut from cedar blocks, trimmed to create
square corners and are pre-graded according to the visual features
that give the wood its character. As well as being attractive,
Eastern White cedar shingles are a sustainable building material. A
naturally occurring preservative gives the cedar shingles a
resistance to fungal, insect and moisture decay removing the need
for chemical treatment and all cedar logs are harvested from
renewable, well-managed Canadian forests. For enhanced durability,
Cembrit Blunn also offer a factory treated option.
Man-made Citadel shingles are available in a range of bold colours
and natural hues to suit both modern architecture and traditional
styles. Standard colours are forest green, royal red, two-tone
black, stone grey or two-tone brown with other colours available on
special order. Citadel shingles are manufactured and tested to a
number of European and International standards including fire and
wind resistance. These shingles are ideal where a lightweight but
weatherproof roof is required as they offer enhanced performance to
many roofing products and withstand large temperature variations,
driving rain and heavy snowfall.
Using skills built up over 80 years, Cembrit Blunn select natural
slate from Spain, Canada, Brazil, China, India and the countries of
Western Europe. From UK quarries Cembrit Blunn offer Welsh, Cornish
and Westmorland slates. Quality levels at Group factories are
rigorously maintained to high standards with fibre cement slates
produced to BS EN 492:2004 and manufactured under the control of a
BS EN ISO 9001: 2000 quality management system. Cembrit Blunn is a
member of the Dansk Eternit Holding A/S Group of Denmark, one of
Europe’s major building material producers of fibre reinforced
cement products for the roofing and cladding industry. The ultimate
parent company FL Smidth this year celebrates its 125 year
anniversary.
