Bourne (near Peterborough) based Larkfleet Group (www.LarkfleetGroup.co.uk)
has launched a new company to produce timber frames for house
building.
Kestrel Timber Frame has commenced operations in a 600 square metre
factory purpose-built by Larkfleet on the Spire Park industrial
estate in Market Deeping, Lincolnshire, near Peterborough. The
company is already employing a dozen people and the workforce is set
to expand as the business grows.
Initially the company will be supplying timber frames for homes
built by Larkfleet Group subsidiaries Larkfleet Homes and FE
Peacock.
Karl Hick, managing director of Larkfleet Group, said: "Timber
framed houses are becoming increasingly popular. Building using
timber frames is more environmentally friendly than using more
traditional methods and allows houses to be built more quickly at
very high standards of quality.
"The need for heating in timber framed houses is also lower than for
traditionally-built homes because they have very high levels of
insulation. This not only means lower energy bills for the
householders but smaller carbon footprints.
"We are ensuring that Kestrel meets the highest environmental
standards by purchasing all our timber from certified sustainable
sources."
Larkfleet decided to launch its own timber frame production company
in order to maintain control over both the quality of the frames and
the schedule for delivering frames to site. The frames are designed
by Larkfleet at its head office in Bourne, then manufactured and
erected on site by Kestrel.
The new semi-automated Kestrel factory at Market Deeping can produce
frames for between 200 and 300 homes each year.
