ISG JACKSON SPECIAL PROJECTS - million pound care home award
ISG Jackson Special Projects has secured a £1.1 million
project with Consensus, a national provider of specialist
support services for people with learning disabilities, to
redevelop the site of a former children’s home in Ipswich to
create four purpose-built apartments and specialist
accommodation for six young adults with a learning disability
and complex needs.
Work on refurbishing the derelict double fronted Victorian
property on Belstead Road has recently commenced, with the
contractor demolishing part of the building, then stripping out
and reconfiguring the existing two-storey structure to provide
four self contained apartments. A range of communal facilities
will also be created in the main building, including a shared
kitchen area, leisure area and lounge providing opportunities
for socialisation and life skills training.
ISG Jackson Special Projects will also construct three
single-storey and one two-storey linked mews style accommodation
to the rear of the property providing an additional six
residences. The environment has been carefully designed to
support the needs of people with Autistic Spectrum Disorder, who
are in transition from child to adult-based services
Externally, ISG Jackson Special Projects will carry out
extensive renovations to the building’s façade, installing new
windows and carrying out repairs to the roof. Stuart Talbot,
divisional director for ISG Jackson Special Projects, commented:
"The company has built up an enviable track record for
successfully delivering niche developments for a host of private
and public sector clients. The scheme has been carefully
designed from the outset to take into account the specialist
needs of the residents and we are confident that once completed,
the home will provide an excellent addition to Ipswich’s
residential care facilities.”
