The Ward Firesafe™ range of roof and wall panels promises to deliver
exceptional performance in fire. Last autumn this promise was put to
the test when an electrical fault at the Ampress Business Park,
Lymington, caused a fire in one of the units, which destroyed the
contents of the building but left the Ward roof panels intact.
The roof was constructed using Ward IP1000 roof panels, which were
fitted over four years ago when the business park on the northern
edge of Lymington, Hampshire, was completed. One of Ward’s most
popular products, IP1000 roof panels were originally specified for
economy, durability and speed of assembly plus the assurance of Ward
Firesafe™ specification.
Warren Tarrent, of WT Roofing Contractors, the company responsible
for initially installing and subsequently replacing the roof panels,
says: “When we were asked to recover the original panels following
the fire, we found that they were still structurally sound despite
suffering from fire and smoke damage. In short, they performed
exactly as expected in a fire situation.”
Given the performance and reliability of the initial roof
installation, Ward IP1000 panels have again been used to replace the
roof, as part of the recent reconstruction of the building.
Ward Firesafe™ roof and wall panels are approved by the Loss
Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) to LPS 1181 and can be used as
part of a building design to achieve compliance with the Building
Regulations Part L2A & L2B and Building Standards Section 6
(Scotland).
