Plans for a ten acre Park at
the Heart of Bradford have received detailed
planning permission by city’s Council.
The newly approved plans to develop a £30m
world-class City Park, designed by Gillespies,
features a unique mirror pool positioned beside the
Grade-I listed City Hall. The pool will sit in the
heart of the park and will hold upcoming majorpublic
events and concerts, as well as featuring children’s
play areas, quiet spaces and bars, cafes and
restaurants.
The decision comes as the Big Lottery Fund prepares
to announce its final shortlist of the cities
competing for a Living Landmarks grant. Bradford is
bidding for £24.5m towards the cost of the scheme
and is competing with 22 other cities across the UK.
Councillor Andrew Mallinson, Head of the District’s
Regeneration, says: “Receiving planning permission
means we now have a detailed plan in place ahead of
hopefully gaining funding from the Lottery. The park
will truly set Bradford apart from other cities
attracting investors and tourists into the city,
making it a leading destination of the future.”
Following the announcement of the final shortlist
the chosen schemes will receive a visit from a
delegation of the Lottery judges, before travelling
to London to present plans to the full judging
panel. A final decision about which schemes will be
awarded funding will be made in November.
