Lumitron Lighting is pleased to present their latest product
catalogue, ‘Permalux’
Lighting specialists Profile Lighting Services were chosen as the
principal supplier of lighting systems for the University of
Plymouth’s new Roland Levinsky Building for arts and the community.
Profile worked closely with the project’s Building Services
Consultant Hoare Lea to create a lighting scheme to complement the
building’s industrial look, with its exposed mechanical & electrical
services installed under a concrete slab. The new Cre8 modular
system with its simple & stylish extruded aluminium profile was
selected as its aesthetics matched the initial design brief; and the
choice of suspended, recessed or surface mounting gives maximum
flexibility in layout throughout the 8 storey 12,500 square metre
project. Cre8 has a 7-way continuous wiring loom incorporating
snap-in terminal blocks every 600mm allowing TL5 fluorescent, mains
track and CDM units to be easily installed in any position,
affording great flexibility in luminaire selection for both task and
display lighting requirements.
The pre-wired suspended trunking aided the ease of installation for
the 2x35W T5 fluorescent luminaires with perforated reflectors/satin
finish louvres; track sections are included in the display areas for
additional impact. Luminaires adjacent to windows are controlled by
integral daylight sensors for energy saving. Fully adjustable 35W &
70W CDM-T Pola spotlights provide the display lighting. A bespoke
emergency luminaire was added for escape lighting in the larger open
areas. In the circulation areas 2x28W T5 Cre8 luminaires with full
reflectors and opal panels are used.
Profile Lighting also supplied the majority of other luminaires used
for the interior of the building with 3x42W TC-T Maxi High Bay
dimmable luminaires used in the lecture theatres and 2x26W TC-D wall
mounted Cymbal surface fluorescent luminaires in stairways, 2x35W T5
PAC IP65 corrosion resistant luminaires in the plant rooms; as well
as EXW, BHAR and ELFSRB emergency lighting. The electrical
installation was undertaken by Mitie Engineering Services
(Peninsula) Ltd of Plymouth.
The project was delivered to the University on time and within
budget by main contractor HBG and will be known as the Roland
Levinsky Building in memory of the University's late
Vice-Chancellor. Concept architects are Henning Larsson from
Copenhagen and BDP of Bristol was appointed project architect by HBG.
