Liquid Plastics Ltd - Tipped favourite for Goodwood

The world famous March Stand at Goodwood Racecourse has been overhauled with Decothane Delta 25 - a hardwearing liquid roof coating from leading high performance weatherproofing supplier Liquid Plastics.

The March stand, originally opened by the Queen in 1980, has a striking barrel shaped roof made from pre-cast concrete, which is supported by a reinforced concrete frame and stainless steel tensioning cables. It had however begun to suffer from water ingress and was in need of a solution that was durable, cost effective, quick to apply and, critically, flame-free.

Kevin Sloane, Repairs and Maintenance Manager at The Goodwood Estate Company Ltd, reviewed the waterproofing options together with the contractor, Jones Brothers Flat Roofing Ltd. “Having discounted several options, including felt and other liquid roofing products, we chose Decothane Delta 25 from Liquid Plastics,” comments Kevin. “We have both worked extensively with the product in the past and felt it was the best solution for the roof, which stands 18 metres above ground, is in a very exposed location on top of a hill and has several areas of complex detailing.”

Decothane Delta 25 is highly elastomeric which enables it to cope with thermal and substrate movement. Boasting a strong track record, it is also guaranteed to last for at least 25 years before first maintenance is required, even in the most challenging conditions.

The first half of the roof was completed recently without disruption to the busy schedule of race meetings at Goodwood. The Decothane system was quickly and easily cold-applied directly over the existing roof, which eliminated the need for potentially dangerous hot works. The second half of the roof will be refurbished in 2008 with the same Liquid Plastics’ solution.

Malcolm Jones, director at Jones Brothers Flat Roofing Ltd, commented; “Quite simply, this would have been an impossible job without Liquid Plastics. They provided superb technical expertise and a high performance product, which enabled us to work within the strict constraints of the project.” Kevin Sloane added: “I’m confident that Decothane Delta 25 will perform very well over the coming years.”

Set in 12,000 acres of rolling Sussex Downland, Goodwood provides an exceptional variety of activities including horse racing, motor racing, golf and flying. Goodwood Racecourse has been home to horseracing since 1802 and is acclaimed as being one of the most beautiful racecourses in the world.
