5RISE, a proposed landmark mixed use
development comprising of quality one and two bedroom apartments
for young professionals and first time buyers, complimented by
the convenience of a modern shopping centre and library
facility.
Developer 4Urban has submitted a multi million pound application
to transform Bingley’s tired Myrtle Walk Shopping Centre and
library into a bold, modern retail and residential scheme, aptly
named “5RISE” after the renowned, local five rise locks.
Bingley, located in the picturesque Aire Valley is a highly
sought after residential location - being 5 miles from Bradford,
in easy commuting distance of Leeds and with excellent transport
links, it has a steadily increasing population. Bingley also has
the advantage of its closeness to the Yorkshire Dales and Ilkley
Moor and its infrastructure has enabled it to prosper.
4Urban propose to build 86 quality, sensibly priced, new
apartments mostly one bedroom, tailored specifically to young
professionals and first time buyers.
The 5RISE retail element will provide a much enhanced shopping
experience, including a quality food retailer. This is ideal for
residents who will benefit from the close proximity of these
plus an improved library facility. The town benefits from a good
choice of places to eat, bars, an arts centre and its own
theatre which are all in walking distance.
“We believe 5RISE will fill a gap in the housing market in the
area and provide a much needed quality retail offer. The close
proximity to Leeds, Bradford, the Dales and its excellent
transport links, has made Bingley a much sought after
residential destination,” said 4Urban’s, Richard Holmes.
Bradford Council's Executive Member for Regeneration, Coun
Andrew Mallinson, said:
"I look forward to seeing this application going before the
planning panel and hopefully it will see the next phase of
regenerating in Bingley town centre coming to fruition.”
"It is a bold design that will set Bingley apart from other
towns, create residential opportunities, a modern retail
experience and provide a new library.
"All of these facilities have been needed for some time now and
the developer has captured these ideas and now wants to deliver
them."
Andy Taylor, Regeneration Manager for the Airedale Partnership
said,
“The Airedale Partnership is excited to see the plans for the
regeneration of the Myrtle Walk shopping centre in Bingley; the
proposed ‘5RISE’ development will see the long awaited
improvements to the town’s retail offer and be another important
step in the delivery of the master plan for Airedale”
Planning permission granted, work would be due to start on site
in Spring 2008 with an approximate eighteen month construction
period.
