Ujima is about to unveil a new look on the
17 th September, reflecting the organisation’s ambitious plan to
transform itself from a ‘bricks and mortar’ outfit to one that
transforms people and places to empower BME (black minority
ethnic) communities. The new logo for the brand will be unveiled
on the 17 th September by Keith Kerr, group chief executive of
Ujima.
Ujima have been providing Housing and Care Services for the BME
community for the past 30 years and with the appointment of a
new Group Chief Executive in 2006, the company has embarked on a
journey of transformation that has resulted in the development
of a group of businesses each dedicated to fulfilling a specific
customer need.
Driven by a ‘self-help’ business philosophy which Ujima simply
expresses as offering its community ‘a hand up not a hand out’,
the organisation is keen to use its unique position of influence
to bring about real change within black communities in Britain
for good.
This is an extraordinary and highly exciting time for Ujima; the
innovative rethink about its infrastructure and its renewed
focus on the customer means that we will see the new Ujima going
from strength to strength. The company will be more outwardly
focused and result-driven with the aim of giving their customers
better life chances and opening up opportunities that will equip
them with assets for life.
The multi-faceted group of businesses will work together to help
BME communities achieve a higher level of inclusion in society,
build up their self-esteem and drive social justice.
The five new business units are:
• Ujima Housing Services
• Ujima Development
• Ujima Maintenance Services
• Ujima Social Enterprise
• Ujima Health and Social Care
Ujima’s innovative drive for change has already been commended
by the charismatic black American Civil Rights Leader Rev. Jesse
Jackson who recently launched Ujima Social Enterprise hailing
its inception as ‘an outstanding and innovative initiative’ The
new identity has been created by Zeal Designs who have worked
closely with Ujima over a number of months. Signing-off the
concepts, Group Chief Executive Keith Kerr said ‘good design is
one of the integral components of the new Ujima brand which is
focused on delivering high quality and excellent service across
all its activities’. Ujima is on a mission and, whilst it is not
the biggest, it is well on its way to becoming
one of the best.
