Design Group 3 Architects - Appointed to transform the village centre at Lightmoor

Leading national architectural practice, Design Group 3 Architects, has received detailed planning consent to develop the first phase of the Village Centre, part of the larger Lightmoor Village development, in Telford.

The 178 acre site is a joint venture between English Partnerships and the Bournville Village Trust (BVT).

The Village Centre proposed by Design Group 3 Architects will form the focal point of the new development and will feature a range of shops and retail units, a family restaurant-style pub, offices, parking, formal open spaces and a total of 224 residential homes.

Appointed by leading residential developers, Crest Nicholson, Design Group 3 Architects presented innovative designs for the Village Centre, proposing an attractive and sustainable new village that offered a variety of housing for a range of different tenures.

The proposals reflected the site’s rich and varied character, combining old and new to offer a well planned and defined compact new community.

Unusually, the Village Centre takes the form of a traditional ‘village square’ layout which fully maximises its prime location at the centre of the development and has created a genuine sense of space.

Located four miles from Telford town centre, Lightmoor Village is a high quality new development that promotes the best in design together with the highest ecological and environmental standards.

An exemplary example of sustainable living, the Village Centre is a mixed and balanced new urban village that is fully integrated with the rest of the development and existing surrounding communities thereby reducing the need to travel by car.

Furthermore, properties are diverse, easily adaptable and provide the very latest in technology to allow residents the opportunity to work from home.

Kevin Webb is the project director for Lightmoor Village and responsible for the management of the development and surrounding environment. He comments: “The design and planning of the new Village Centre is an exceptional addition to the overall development at Lightmoor.”

Design Group 3 Architects’ Chairman, Gareth Howell commented: “This is our first development with English Partnerships and we are extremely proud of the Village Centre which highlights our expertise in innovative and sustainable design. We’re delighted to be involved with Lightmoor Village, it is a unique development that will really take the design of new settlements to a new level.”

Since construction commenced on site, Lightmoor Village has already undergone massive change. Build is due to start imminently at the Village Centre on the key commercial buildings and 112 homes.

English Partnerships is the national regeneration agency helping the Government to support high quality sustainable growth in England.

Bournville Village Trust founded Bournville Village in Birmingham over a century ago and ‘Bournville’ has become a byword for good management of housing for the benefit of its residents.

Design Group 3 Architects is a design-led architectural practice with three creative studios in Leeds, Bristol and Brighton and a proven track record in the delivery of innovative, sustainable and commercially successful projects across the UK.
