Saniflo - A successfully fishy end for one Saniplus!

A powerful Saniplus macerator system has been installed on a pontoon floating amongst the salmon pens at the Scottish Sea Farms operation in Loch Creran, about 12 miles north of Oban, on Scotland’s west coast.

The pontoon supports a two-storey structure providing essential offices and restroom facilities for the staff that manage the busy farm, which supplies the very best Scottish salmon to outlets throughout the UK and around the world. A minimum of five staff work on the platform, seven days a week throughout the year

Working in a tough marine environment, the Saniplus pumps the toilet waste into a holding tank, which is then taken ashore and emptied into the mainland sewer system, so that nothing enters the closely controlled environment of the loch.

The Saniplus was recommended by local plumbing engineer, Will Currie, who also installed the unit. He explained: “Initially the waste from the upstairs toilet was pumped into the holding tank using a standard boat macerator pump. This was OK for occasional use but not for consistent use and only lasted six months.

“Scottish Sea Farms asked me to look at a more efficient alternative and I considered a Saniplus would provide a satisfactory solution. Installation took about an hour and involved taking a small-bore discharge pipe off the macerator unit and from there into the holding tank from where it is transport by boat to the mainland for regular disposal.”

Attention to this type of detail is essential to Scottish Sea Farms’ operation in Loch Creran where salmon farming is carried out to the highest standards in special ecological conditions to preserve the species and to supply market demand, offering customers salmon of consistently high quality at an affordable price.

Saniplus is well suited to this type of demanding installation. It has a robust 400W motor that’s capable of pumping waste efficiently and economically 5m vertically and 100m horizontally, or a lesser combination of the two.

The Saniplus uses only 6 litres of water per flush. The macerating system comprises a pressure chamber, which starts and stops the unit, and the motor driving the stainless steel macerator blades and pump.

The entire Saniflo Range and the Kinedo shower range are available nationally through builders and plumbers merchants with a full two-year guarantee.
