PRUPIM submits planning application for Reading GreenPark Railway Station
28 August 2007,
London UK: PRP Architects Ltd has designed the first
privately-financed, new railway station in the South
of England for 50 years. The Government gave the
green light for the station last summer and, on
behalf on PRUPIM, PRP has been drawing up detailed
plans since then. A planning application has been
submitted to Reading Borough Council and trains
could be stopping at the new Reading GreenPark
Station by the end of 2008 if planning permission is
granted this Autumn.
PRP’s proposal is for the construction of a highly
flexible Railway Station comprising 5 train carriage
length platforms with canopies above, a station
concourse and pedestrian bridge across the tracks.
The bus interchange includes a decked park and ride
facility, ‘kiss and ride’ (short stay car park),
taxi drop off, disabled parking facility, access
road, landscaping and associated works. The key
feature of the station is a 6m cantilevered entrance
canopy.
PRUPIM’s Tim Davis, commented: “Reading GreenPark
station will underpin GreenPark’s position as one of
the most accessible business locations in the
country. It has been part of our long-term plan and
reinforces our commitment both to sustainable
development and the future of South Reading, where
it will benefit existing and new occupiers,
residents and the wider community. PRP has created a
highly flexible design that will allow us to expand
the station’s facilities in the future.”
GreenPark is a high quality and commercially
successful business park owned by Prudential and
managed by PRUPIM, part of the M&G Group. Located in
south Reading, close to Junction 11 of the M4, the
park provides office space for companies of all
sizes in a magnificently landscaped environment.
