An independent social housing
provider in the greater Manchester area has chosen
to continue its long working relationship with
Johnson & Starley by specifying RENO high efficiency
gas boilers in two very different types of domestic
situation.
Prestwich and North Western Housing Association
manages 190 homes in the Manchester suburb, the
majority of which date from the early 1970s and are
heated by ducted warm air distribution systems. Most
of these have been updated to feature Johnson &
Starley’s Economaire units that offer both energy
efficiency and superior indoor air quality.
Following the successful ‘trial’ of the condensing
based heating systems, RENO boilers were also chosen
when the conventional heating systems in a block of
six apartments, built some 15 years ago, became due
for replacement.
The housing association was set up some 35 years ago
by a group of councillors who wanted to provide high
quality affordable accommodation for the people of
Prestwich. As a small independent association, it
provides apartments for couples and single
residents.
“We like to think we provide a unique local service
compared to some of the other Associations in the
sector,” says Maintenance Manager Dion Woods. In
Quinn House we installed another half a dozen RENO’s
and the AquaStar cylinders in place of the original
boilers. Johnson & Starley products were specified
by the association both to keep a single source of
supply and more importantly, because the technical
back up and support from the company has always been
first rate. Beyond this, the reliability of the
first two RENO’s was excellent.” In the upstairs
apartments at Quinn House Johnson & Starley was able
to provide all the components from stock to take the
flues up through the roof.
The RENO boilers modulate across a wide performance
range to optimise their fuel economy while
reliability is guaranteed through the inclusion of
high quality components such as the Grundfos
circulator pumps and Honeywell controls. The boilers
have also been designed with ease of installation
and maintenance in mind, which were also seen as
major advantages for Prestwich. “I just don’t get
any calls from the residents about heating
problems,” continues Dion Woods.
