ISG Jackson Special Projects has been
awarded a £1.8 million project by the Guinness Trust, one of the
largest housing associations in England, to build 16 new
affordable homes in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex. Demolition of a
number of existing derelict properties on the site has been
completed and the contractor has now commenced work on this high
profile, fast-track residential project.
The scheme sees ISG Jackson Special Projects construct a
three-storey, timber frame building on site, delivering 16 flats
in one and two bedroom configurations. The project will achieve
a ‘very good’ Eco Homes rating and externally the building will
feature attractive brick, render and timber cladding to its
façade and a high performance pitched membrane roof.
The tightly constrained site provides challenging working
conditions for the contractor, with the new building occupying
the entire footprint of the site. Utilising the sloping nature
of the site, ISG Jackson Special Projects will form a basement
car parking area beneath the building and carry out a range of
external hard and soft landscaping finishes. The project is
scheduled for completion mid-March 2008.
Michael Manning, divisional director for ISG Jackson Special
Projects, commented: "As environmental performance and
sustainability continue to prove key driving forces for housing
association clients, we can demonstrate a strong track record in
our effective use of modern methods of construction to meet the
strictest green criteria. ISG Jackson Special Project’s growing
list of blue chip social housing clients firmly underlines our
commitment and desire to secure an increasing share of this
important sector.”
