Design Group 3 Architects - £2.6M regeneration scheme for Roedale Road

A brownfield site in the centre of Brighton will be transformed into 21 contemporary and stylish affordable homes designed by Design Group 3 Architects’ Brighton Studio.

Construction has commenced on the site, which is situated on Roedale Road, a predominantly residential area of Brighton. Previously the land was home to a refrigeration and ventilation factory and after years of neglect was in desperate need of redevelopment.

The £2.6 million regeneration scheme was designed with local residents in mind. It will provide a range of attractive, affordable accommodation, including a row of seven townhouses and 14 apartments housed within one three storey building.

Design Group 3 Architects has enhanced alfresco living, with the development featuring fantastic roof gardens plus extensive permeable external communal areas.

Incorporating many ecological aspects in the design proposal, the scheme will boast strong eco-friendly solutions, such as rainwater harvesting and recycling and photovoltaic cells.

Design Group 3 Architects was commissioned by Southern Housing Group to design the project. DG3A is a national practice with a Studio at Queen Square in Brighton and this is a major project for the practice in the local Brighton area.

Chris Brooks, Director at Design Group 3 Architects, says: “Despite working on many major schemes nationally, we are particularly proud of Roedale Road. The combination of our in-depth knowledge of the area and extensive experience in residential design will result in the provision of front-line affordable housing in the city centre - putting great homes within reach of key workers and local residents.”

Chris continues: “We wanted to create a stylish residential development that made the most of its location. An outdoor communal area was created away from the road, within the development. This aims to create a community feel and we ensured that it was still accessible for existing residents in the area, integrating the new build into the surrounding residential area.

“The homes also all have south facing gardens to make the most of the great weather and sunshine we have in Brighton. The roof gardens will act as sun traps and offer great areas to escape city life.”

Design Group 3 Architects is a design-led architectural practice with three creative studios in Leeds, Bristol and Brighton and a proven track record in the delivery of innovative, sustainable and commercially successful projects across the UK.
