Xtratherm UK - Keep insulation locked in rafters

Xtratherm, one of the leading providers of insulation solutions, has launched an innovative new product for insulating pitched roofs that provides a robust and user-friendly way to improve the thermal performance of a building.

Rafterloc is a BBA-Approved polyisocyanurate (PIR) foam that is installed concertina style between rafters on the slope of the roof.

“This new product has been released in response to demand from customers for a quick and easy way to achieve required thermal performance in new build and renovation projects,” explains Danny Kearney Technical Manager at Xtratherm. “This user-friendly system features a clever slotting mechanism that allows the boards to lock between the rafters, ensuring a tight fit which is a really effective way to reduce heat loss through the roof. The new product is part of our ongoing development of a whole range of innovative and user-friendly insulation solutions designed to appeal to specifiers, contractors and developers.”

Rafterloc is available in 360 and 565mm widths and 50 and 100mm thicknesses. Each Rafterloc panel has a width variation of between 20 - 30mm to allow a tight fit between the rafters.

Rafterloc therefore avoids most problems with discrepancies in timber widths and spacings that can result from standard size insulated board and therefore helps reduce waste on site.

Polyisocyanurate (PIR), used in the manufacture of Rafterloc, has a closed cell rigid foam construction that offers excellent insulation properties. This allows PIR to achieve one of the lowest Lambda Values of any insulation material and therefore energy efficient roof systems can be achieved with the minimum of thickness - a single layer of Rafterloc may be sufficient. However for buildings that require even better U-values Rafterloc is recommended to be used in combination with Xtratherm Pitched Roof Board Thin-R below the rafter, which also reduces thermal bridging.

Rafterloc is part of Xtratherm’s complete range of PIR insulation products, which are renowned for their high quality construction, excellent performance and durability. As well as offering an innovative product range, Xtratherm provides expert technical guidance through an extensive suite of literature, CDs and website support on meeting the latest building regulations.

Danny Kearney explains: “Our products are designed to help developers meet not only current but also future building performance requirements. There are many challenges facing the construction industry and our aim is to provide solutions that make meeting the regulations as simple and straightforward as possible.”

Rafterloc is manufactured using a blowing agent which has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and therefore provides a solution to CFC and HCFC-free specification requirements.
