Polyflor Ltd - Timber touch for new hospital extension

Sophisticated and highly realistic timber effect sheet vinyl flooring - from commercial flooring specialist and Architects for Health think tank sponsor Polyflor Ltd - has been installed in reception and all circulation areas at the new build extension to the Bridgnorth Community Hospital in Shropshire.

Polyflor’s Forest FX range in a variety of shades was installed by Wolverhampton-based Baker Floors who also fitted Polysafe Astral sheet vinyl safety flooring in the new unit’s treatment rooms.

Developed in response to demand from specifiers and designers for a wood effect sheet vinyl, Forest FX is targeted primarily at the healthcare, education and high street sectors, but its outstanding appearance and performance characteristics are seen as appealing to the broad commercial market.

The collection features 14 of the most widely specified wood colours, including oak, beech, maple and cherry as well as teak, walnut, mahogany and cocobolo.

The range also features a polyurethane reinforcement (PUR), which protects the floor during installation and handover and facilitates a polish-free maintenance regime.

Polysafe Astral is available in 14 vibrant colours each featuring an eye-catching multi-flake decoration. The flooring incorporates Supratec+, the second generation of Polyflor’s unique soil releasing polymer system, now including polyurethane for reduced dirt pick up, even easier maintenance and life cycle cost savings of up to 60% over traditional safety flooring.

As well as meeting the performance requirements of EN13845 and being BBA Agrément certified as G5ws, Astral conforms to HSE guidelines, achieving a sustainable slip resistance value of ≥36 on the RRL Pendulum wet test (using Four S/Slider 96 rubber) and a surface roughness of Rz ≥20µm.

Polysafe Astral has been independently tested and results demonstrate that the product inhibits the growth of MRSA. An effective cleaning regime is, however, the most important defence against infection.

Fully tested to fire safety standard EN13501-1, Polysafe Astral is certified as Class Bfl-S1, achieving the criteria EN ISO 9239-1 ≥8kw/m² and the mandatory requirement of EN ISO 11925-2 pass.
