CMS Acoustics Solutions - Vertiface Composition takes game, set and match at Ryton Comprehensive School

CMS Acoustics has worked with Gateshead Council to ensure sporting activity is no longer a racket at Ryton Comprehensive School, Tyne & Wear, after supplying Vertiface Composition – a retrospectively applied acoustic wall covering system to control high reverberation levels within the school’s new build sports hall.

Adhering directly onto finished interior wall surfaces to deliver an aesthetically appealing acoustic treatment, 350m2 of Vertiface Composition material was installed onto the upper half of the sports hall walls following the failure of an existing product that was expected to deliver the necessary levels of acoustic performance.

Needing to improve noise control whilst protecting the wall surfaces from balls and other games equipment used in games activity, Gateshead Council consulted CMS Acoustics, who recommended Vertiface Composition for its ability to effectively absorb reverberated sound without appearing to be a corrective measure.

Installing Vertiface Composition onto finished interior wall surfaces can achieve a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of up to 0.8, typically reducing reverberated noise by approximately 80 per cent.

David Holder, director of CMS Acoustics, comments: “In any area where reverberation is a problem, Vertiface Composition can help to deliver optimum acoustic performance whilst also providing an aesthetically appealing finish.

“At Ryton Comprehensive, Vertiface Composition is providing a two-fold benefit in that it is helping to control excessive reverberation whilst standing up to the impact of balls hitting its surface due to the material’s high level recovery properties.”

Vertiface Composition is made from 100% polyester fibres that are thermally bonded in a non-woven matrix and laminated to a high density non-woven polyester backing.

Now available as a ‘Class A’ sound absorber, the Vertiface Composition range is offered in a fine velour or rib finish.

With a choice of 12, 16 and 22mm thicknesses, Gateshead Council selected the 12mm specification in order to achieve the level of reverberation control required within the Ryton Comprehensive sports hall.

Available in simple to install rolls or tiles, Vertiface Composition offers a retrospective and cost effective acoustic solution. Offered with a collection of 30 colours, Gateshead selected ‘butter’ to reflect the colour scheme of the sports hall.

Particularly suited to the education sector, concert halls, churches, theatres and libraries, Vertiface Composition can be used in any area that is affected by reverberated sound.

The Vertiface Composition range is a safe, non toxic, non irritant, recyclable product that is resistant to moisture and fading. It also allows the use of drawing pins should its surface be required as a notice board.
