Fläkt Woods Ltd Banking on success
Under a contract to supply energy efficient car park
venting solutions, Fläkt Woods is working beneath one of
the most iconic and striking buildings at the heart of
Glasgow’s central business district, at 110 St Vincent
Street.
Designed in 1925 by James Miller, with Grade A listing,
the façade of 110 St Vincent Street and the superb
ground floor banking hall have both been retained under
a £20 million contract. Work will transform the building
into a dramatic setting for the new fully open plan
office of up to 94,020 sq ft on floor plates averaging
12,000 sq ft with a new fully glazed terrace floor at
the roof level.
Within the enclosed basement area Flakt Woods is
providing a complete turnkey contract for ventilation of
the 25 space car park. The package includes 4 specialist
Jet Thrust fans and 2 high temperature JM high pressure
2 stage extract fans of 710mm diameter with attenuators.
Make up air to the space is provided via a supply fan of
1120mm diameter.
The Company is also installing the control panel, which
activates and adjusts fan speeds according to the CO
levels detected within a period of time. The system will
respond to fire or smoke detection with an emergency
smoke clearance mode. It is designed for optimum
management of the system with “on demand” control for
individual fans and dampers. Controlling fan activation
and fan speeds in this way means substantial amounts of
energy and unnecessary wear and tear can be saved.
Work on the building includes infilling the light well
above the banking floor to create new open plan office
space on seven levels. The refurbishment also requires
major structural alterations to form the new floor
plates and complete renewal of building services and
internal finishes to meet institutional standards.
Working to a very demanding project programme, Flakt
Woods are expecting to have completed design,
manufacture, supply and installation of the Car Park
project within a 12 week window. The project has an
anticipated practical completion date of April 2007.
