Walker Morris - Walker Morris team advise on new fire service facilities at Prince Charles' Poundbury Model Village

Lawyers from Walker Morris have completed work on a £150 million PFI project that will see a new fire station and fire services headquarters built in Poundbury, the model village being developed by Prince Charles on his Duchy of Cornwall estate.
The development is part of a novel project in which the Dorset Police Authority and the Dorset Fire Authority have combined to jointly procure two new fire stations, a fire service head quarters and a divisional police headquarters.
The Walker Morris team acted for the contractor, PFF ( Dorset) Ltd, which was specially formed for the project by Carden Croft & Co Ltd, Morgan Sindall Investments Ltd and Barclays Capital Finance.
The buildings in Poundbury village will be designed to reflect the architectural style of the development. The two other emergency service centres, a divisional police headquarters and a new fire station, are to be built in Poole.
Work is expected to start almost immediately with all four elements of the project completed and operational by the end of 2009.
David Kilduff, head of the Walker Morris Commercial Group, said today:-
“This was a protracted and sometimes complex project to bring to completion but we have extensive experience of large scale, complicated PFI projects and were able to assemble a multi-disciplined team able to achieve this. Our success in closing the project, negotiated in both Dorset and London, demonstrates our ability to fully support clients nationwide from our centre of excellence in Leeds.”
“The project will deliver a range of modern emergency services facilities to the people of Dorset.”
Walker Morris has established a national reputation for its work on major PFI projects.
Earlier this year, Commercial Group lawyers finalised what is thought to be one of the UK’s largest and most significant waste disposal PFI schemes, a 25 year, £2 billion deal on behalf of Lancashire County Council and also completed a £65 million schools, PFI building project for Clackmannanshire Council.
The Dorset scheme is the latest transaction in more than £5 billion of PFI/Project work handled by the Commercial Group, including major schools building and waste disposal programmes around the country, in the last three years.
The Walker Morris team comprised lawyers from the Commercial Group ( Mark Sanderson, David Kilduff, Richard Auton and Richard White), Property Department (Chris Woodthorpe), Corporate Department ( Emma Marsden) and Finance Group ( Michael Taylor and Helen Duffy).
