Ridgeons - Promotes Green Benefits of Wood Burners
Builders merchant Ridgeons is promoting the use of
wood burning stoves as a green alternative to standard
gas or electric room heaters. The company is introducing
working displays in a number of its key branches to
illustrate how an energy-efficient wood burner/flue
combination can help house builders meet government
energy-saving standards.
The working displays feature the Danish Varde Ovne wood
burner range used in conjunction with flues from leading
European manufacturer Poujoulat.
Product group manager Dave Jordan says: “House builders
are currently working to achieve the government targets
of 23% energy savings in new-build properties. The wood
burners we are featuring are 80% energy-efficient and
according to David Shearer, a principal consultant with
the Building Research Establishment, a high efficiency
wood burning stove used in conjunction with a Poujoulat
chimney within the envelope of the house can achieve a
9.8% reduction in energy use which is a significant
contribution towards the target. By linking with
Poujoulat, we are also able to offer significant savings
on the installation costs.”
Ridgeons single out the Varde Line’s inset model as a
potential best seller in the new-build market. The Varde
In-line 55 carries the Nordic Swan Ecolabel, an
environmental stamp of approval for both the finished
product and the way it is manufactured. Featuring a
three-stage combustion system, the stoves use primary
air to keep the fire going and secondary air to regulate
the size of the flames and amount of heat. They also use
tertiary air which makes them highly efficient and
environmentally friendly. The tertiary air is
automatically directed over the flames and burns off the
remaining gases in the firebox, the extra oxygen
ensuring cleaner combustion. The fully welded firebox
also makes them easy to control and the design ensures
that heat is evenly distributed around the room.
In conjunction with Varde Ovne and Poujoulat, Ridgeons,
who is the exclusive distributor for Varde Ovne in East
Anglia, can also offer special presentations for
developers and house builders to demonstrate the energy
savings and ease of installation of the wood burner/flue
combination. For more details, contact Dave Jordan on
