Flower Show
In celebration of the Hardy Plant Society’s Golden
Jubilee, a beautifully designed garden featuring rare
and unusual plants was displayed at this year’s RHS
Chelsea Flower Show, constructed using the versatile
range of Kee Klamp® fittings, manufactured and supplied
by Reading based Kee Klamp Ltd. Commemorating the
anniversary, the exhibit was entitled the ‘Jubilee
Party’ and was awarded a Silver Medal at the prestigious
show.
The Hardy Plant Society is an international society that
works towards ensuring garden worthy perennial plants
remain in cultivation. The Hertfordshire Local Group
staged their festive display at the Chelsea Flower Show
to celebrate the Hardy Plant Society’s 50th anniversary.
Designed by Barbara Stalbow and constructed by Just
Property Care, the structure comprised a circular open
roofed and open sided wooden marquee set in grass with a
selection of variegated ivies and other climbing plants
dressing the roof rafters and centre pole. Within the
marquee were two island beds effectively mixing a range
of rare, unusual and well-known plants, all enclosed by
a circular framework created using Kee Klamp® cast iron
fittings.
“It was important for the ‘Jubilee Party’ to have an
ethereal, open look yet we also needed it to be strong
and stable to meet the RHS’s stringent Health and Safety
requirements. Using Kee Klamp® fittings enabled us to
create precisely this effect” explains Terry Millar of
Just Property Care. “Each fitting blended into the whole
scene, having been painted a beige colour to match the
natural warm wood, as well as being partially obscured
by climbing plants. Only the very observant realised
that they were responsible for holding the whole ‘party’
together”.
The arrangement incorporated a number of Kee Klamp®
fittings which connected the poles together to form the
strong, secure framework. Each Kee Klamp® fitting
incorporates an integral set screw to lock safely and
securely onto the poles. This eliminates the need for
time consuming welding or specialist skills, proving
particularly cost effective for a project such as this,
as well as helping to keep assembly and disassembly time
down to an absolute minimum.
