ISG Jackson - ISG Jackson chalks up £7.3 million Enfield School
Project
ISG Jackson has secured a £7.3 million education
sector project to enhance facilities at Bishop
Stopford's School in Enfield, Middlesex. Work has now
commenced on site at the specialist mathematics and
computing school to construct a new Design Technology
and English building, as well as a Post-16 Learning
Centre and modern canteen.
The project has been carefully planned to enable phased
occupation of the new facilities over the course of the
123 week construction programme. Final completion of the
scheme is scheduled for the start of the new academic
year in September 2009. The school will remain fully
operational throughout the project period, with ISG
Jackson implementing a highly detailed schedule of
works, incorporating robust traffic management systems
and fully segregated working areas, to minimise any
potential disruption to staff and students.
The initial phases of the project involve the
construction of the part two-storey Design Technology
and English building, and the creation of a new school
entrance area. The steel frame Design Technology and
English building will provide accommodation for twelve
new classrooms and a large open plan CDT studio. The
contractor will also build an impressive glazed atrium
at the front of Bishop Stopford's School, carrying out
extensive remodelling of the existing reception to
improve accessibility and facilitate the installation of
a new lift and the creation of a medical room and head
teacher’s office.
An all day cafeteria style canteen will be formed within
the existing sixth form building and ISG Jackson will
construct a new two-storey Post-16 Learning Centre,
housing teaching rooms and a large open plan common
room. The new facilities have been designed to minimise
energy usage and the development is expected to achieve
a ‘Very Good’ BREEAM environmental rating.
Ian Gifford, director of ISG Jackson’s Public division,
commented: “The complexities of working across numerous
buildings on a live and fully operational site, with
strictly limited accessibility, makes the Bishop
Stopford’s School project a challenging proposition.
Working closely with the school and understanding their
specific requirements and goals has been a core element
of the scheme, helping ISG Jackson devise a tailored
programme of works that firmly delivers on expectations.
Once completed, Bishop Stopford’s School will boast some
of the most modern and purpose-built learning resources
within the region, further enhancing its reputation for
academic excellence.”
