Cross Services Engineering Ltd - CEL produces timely Switchgear
solution Getronics
Electrical engineer Cross Services Engineering Limited (CSEL)
has produced a sophisticated Low Voltage Switchgear
Control system for IT data services specialist Getronics.
The design, construction and installation of the
Switchgear Control is the latest in a line of
successful projects carried out by CSEL for Getronics at
its National Data Centre in Runcorn, Cheshire.
Getronics is a leading international provider of
information and communication technology (ICT) services
for blue chip companies including Barclays Bank. When it
was looking to upgrade and replace existing obsolete
power systems, it turned to CSEL. The multi discipline
engineering company has a long standing 'Term
Maintenance' contract with Getronics, and has previously
delivered a number of switch room upgrades by installing
new switchboards for greater power stability.
CSEL's in-house engineers proposed a switchgear design
using Eaton HOLEC's TABULA component range. Once this
was approved by Getronics, a process of constructing the
bespoke switchgear panels began at CSEL's St. Helens
workshop. After passing all Factory Acceptance Tests,
the switchgear was then transported in four sections and
re-constructed in-situ at the Getronics' facility,
before undergoing further Site Acceptance Tests.
By meticulously testing the switchgear system during all
stages of the construction and installation, CSEL has
ensured the safe delivery of a high specification
switchgear which replaces ageing electrical
infrastructure. Getronics now has an assured, reliable
and modern electrical solution suitable for supporting
the IT systems essential for a range of UK businesses.
Furthermore, as CSEL also provides Getronics with a host
of 24 hour on-site technical services, experienced
technicians are readily
available to support the company and ensure the smooth
integration of new electrical systems with existing
infrastructure.
CSEL's business unit manager and switchgear engineer
Martin Jolley comments: "We have built a solid
reputation amongst our clients for delivering high
quality switchgear and control systems, constructed by
engineers with a wealth of component knowledge and
electrical engineering expertise. Getronics turned to
our engineers and on-site technicians for a bespoke
solution to replace an obsolete system, and as a result
of our collaboration, we have provided it with the
electrical stability to continue its important work
without technical disruptions.
Cross' on-site manager at Getronics Tony Doughty
concludes: "Over the past five years we have built an
excellent working relationship with Getronics which has
allowed the company to thrive. The on-site expertise
that we provide is an understated part of the Cross
Services Engineering package, but without our dedicated
technicians, the smooth operation of the Getronics site
and others like it would be considerably harder."
"We look forward to continuing to provide Getronics with
further important switchgear systems throughout 2007."
