Energy saving air conditioning solutions for Light Commercial
Sectors
Daikin Europe N.V. has introduced a ‘mini’ heat pump
version of its R-410A VRVIII air conditioning system.
Designated VRVIII-S, the new version operates both on
single and 3-phase electrical supply and is available in
4, 5 and 6hp models with capacities of 11.2, 14.0 and
15.5kW (cooling) and 12.5, 16.0 and 18.0kW (heating).
Ideal for Light Commercial Sectors
Intended as an extension of the VRVIII system, VRVIII-S
is designed for installation in 6 to 9 unit applications
and is therefore, ideal for the light commercial
sectors. A particularly important feature is the ‘night
quiet’ mode, which can be set to cut in automatically 8
hours after peak daytime temperature and run for 9 hours
before returning to normal operating mode.
Alternatively, the night set mode can be customised with
site set starting and ending times. During the night
time period operating sound of the outdoor unit is
reduced progressively in three increments of 3dBA down
to 41 dBA!.
Many Advanced Features
VRVIII-S incorporates all the technically advanced
features of the larger VRVIII: Auto charging for
example. This important environmental and installation
feature enables VRVIII-S to control the amount of
additional refrigerant charging during commissioning
operation. Pressing the ‘start’ button on a PCB inside
the outdoor unit casing after connecting the refrigerant
cylinder to the charging port, initiates charging, which
ceases automatically once the appropriate volume of
refrigerant has been transferred. After charging is
complete, pressing a test operation button on the same
PCB initiates a check on wiring, shut off valves,
sensors.
High COPs are achieved through the incorporation of a
high pressure DC reluctance inverter controlled dome
compressor, which generates COPs from 3.01 to 3.15
(cooling) and 3.41 to 3.73 (heating). The DC motor
maintains high efficiency levels in the most frequently
used ‘mid’ to ‘low’ settings, thereby reducing
electricity consumption and costs. The compressor also
enables the system to operate in wide ambient
temperature bands of –50C to 460CDB (cooling) and –200C
to 15.50CWB (heating).
Easy Installation
Installation is improved by the casing design of the
outdoor unit with a footprint of just 320mm deep by
900mm wide, making it slimmer and reducing installation
space requirements by just over 40% compared to VRVIII.
It can therefore fit easily onto balconies and narrow
ledges. Maximum piping length is 150m, total piping
length is 300m and maximum vertical differential between
outdoor and indoor units is 50m. The Daikin ‘Super
Wiring’ system allows shared use of the wiring between
indoor and outdoor units and the centralised remote
control, the non polarity of the system obviating
incorrect connection and reducing installation time.
Further important technical features include an e-Bridge
circuit, which results in additional sub-cooling and an
e-Pass heat exchanger, which ensures more effective heat
transfer across the heat exchanger and reduces the risk
of “cold spots” thereby improving efficiency. Also
incorporated is a current sensing function that
minimises the difference between actual and
predetermined power consumption.
Outdoor unit fan efficiency is also maximised by the
incorporation of a DC fan motor, which results in
improvements in performance of just over 40%,
particularly at lower speeds. Also, the new
aerodynamically designed aero spiral fan with bent
blades drastically reduces operating sound. The smooth
‘bell mouth’ air inlet is fitted with guide vanes at the
intake to reduce air turbulence around the fan blades.
Meanwhile, ribs of the new ‘Super’ aero grille are
aligned with the discharge flow to minimise noise and
turbulence. Special anti corrosion treatment of the heat
exchanger ensures greatly increased resistance to salt
corrosion.
VRVIII-S is supported by a full range of 13 different
model indoor units in 73 different variants comprising 2
and 4 way blow ceiling cassettes, ceiling concealed,
ceiling suspended, wall mounted, floor standing and
concealed floor standing models. Compatible with the
complete Daikin suite of advanced air conditioning
monitoring and control systems (DS-net, I-Controller,
I-Manager, BACnet Gateway and DMS-IF), VRVIII-S offers
high energy saving, precisely controlled and monitored
air conditioning solutions for small commercial building
projects.
New Connectable Round Flow Cassette
Attractively finished in elegant ‘fresh white’ (RAL
9010) as standard, the new FXFQ-P round flow cassette is
also connectable to the VRVIII-S. Available in 9 sizes
with capacities of 2.20 to 14.00kW (cooling) and 2.50 to
16.00kW (heating), the units have sound pressure levels
ranging from 28 to 44dBA. System compatible with all
other VRV indoor units, the FXFQ features the usual
Daikin indoor unit functions. Moreover, 360° air
discharge ensures uniform air flow and temperature
distribution, and air discharge from the corners avoids
dead zones that may be subject to temperature
differences.
The facility also allows 23 different air flow patterns.
