ISG Totty - ISG Totty receives an encore with £5.3 million Barnsley Ramada project

ISG Totty has been awarded a £5.3 million project by New World Leisure, to build a new 117-bed Ramada Encore hotel in Barnsley. Situated off Junction 37 of the M1 motorway at Capitol Park, the new hotel is ideally located to attract business customers, providing high quality and affordable accommodation and featuring nine well equipped meeting rooms.
The client, New World Leisure, is a development and operation joint venture between Alfred McAlpine and New World Hotel Operations, and this latest project sees the rapidly expanding Ramada Encore brand increase its profile within the Yorkshire region. ISG Totty will commence construction of the four-storey hotel in July, with completion scheduled for late Spring 2008.
The building has been designed to maximise the volume of open plan space on the ground floor, which sees ISG Totty utilise a steel frame structure to first floor height and then a pre-cast concrete frame structure for the remaining three-storeys. A full height glazed atrium provides a light and spacious entrance and reception area, with two lifts providing access to the upper floors. Pre-fabricated bathroom pods, comprising en-suite facilities for each room, will be used on the scheme to enhance efficiencies and reduce the number of trades people required on site. These pods will be delivered to site when required, craned into position and then connected up to the services.
Facilities on the ground floor also include a large dining area and bar, with back of house offices and staff accommodation. Externally, the hotel will feature composite cladding, brick, block work and curtain walling to its façade and ISG Totty will form a car park and carry out a range of hard and soft landscaping finishes.
John Gittins, managing director of ISG Totty, commented: "The Ramada Encore development is the second high profile hotel project ISG Totty has secured within the last few months, highlighting our growing reputation within this burgeoning sector. With previous experience partnering Whitbread and delivering a nationwide roll out of Holiday Inn Express projects, the company has an excellent track record within this arena and we are actively looking to increase our exposure to this highly dynamic market.”
