Thurston Building Systems Ltd - Thurston Prison Cell Passes its
Final Test With Flying Colours
Thurston Building Systems is pleased to announce its
innovative prison cell accommodation has passed the
final stage of rigorous testing and is ready to roll out
production.
The prison holding cell prototype has survived intense
scrutiny and punishing tests to ensure it can withstand
substantial force, without any breakage, security breach
or the exposure of sharp surfaces.
Passing this final stage of testing means the Thurston
cell is suitable for use in a prison environment for
cellular accommodation and puts the company at the
forefront of modular prison accommodation as an
alternative to traditional build.
Obviously, security was paramount to the R&D and design
of the new prison cell. However, Peter Speight,
Divisional Technical Director explains that is not the
only benefit.
“Where we can add value over traditional build is that
the manufacture of the superstructure, the ground works
and the enabling works, can be carried out
simultaneously. This can substantially cut down on
traditional build time. The versatility and flexibility
integral to all Thurston products mean that each
construction can be bespoke to the individual customers’
needs.
“We have proven that we can provide a secure, steel
manufactured off-site prison accommodation, that’s ready
to use as a prison cell, almost off the shelf. We are
taking prison cell design to the next generation by
integrating under-floor heating. So, there are no
radiators to pull off walls and it’s excellent in terms
of energy design and efficiency and reducing the carbon
footprint of a building.”
It is excellent news for Thurston Building Systems,
Chief Executive, Jonathan Petch, is delighted with this
latest company achievement, he said:
“Completing and passing the final stage of testing
allows the Thurston group to promote this new product in
earnest approaching local authorities, the police and
the prison service, with absolute confidence.”
“This signals a great growth opportunity for the company
and means that we can continue to extend our product
portfolio and move into new markets.”
