Johnstone - Johnstone's cleans up it's act to tackle graffiti
Leading paint manufacturer Johnstone’s is so confident
about its latest coatings aimed at tackling the growing
problem of graffiti, that it has spray painted its own
headquarters to demonstrate just how good a product it
is.
Graffiti is a huge problem across the whole of the UK.
In London it is estimated that graffiti removal costs
more than £100 million a year, whilst one council -
Brighton & Hove - puts the cost of cleaning graffiti
from its own buildings at more than £140,000 annually.
Financial costs, environmental concerns and the effect
graffiti has on communities have forced local
authorities to invest increasing amounts of time and
resources into tackling this pervasive problem.
Johnstone’s paints has launched a new anti-graffiti
range of products which it is so confident about, it
commissioned renowned media artists Arcadia to cover a
wall at its Birstall headquarters with graffiti.
The wall was first treated with one coat of Johnstone’s
Stormshield Stabilising Solution and two coats of
Johnstone’s 2 Pack Anti Graffiti Glaze. It was then
sprayed before being cleaned and restored to its
original state with Johnstone’s Graffiti Remover.
“As our demonstration shows, Johnstone’s new 2 Pack Anti
Graffiti coatings really do provide an excellent weapon
in the fight against this growing problem. Being water
based, it is simple to apply and as it provides a smooth
satin surface, it is so much easier to clean even when
applied to textured surfaces such as brick or stone,”
comments Melanie Godley, Johnstone’s Speciality Brand
Manager.
“Johnstone’s Anti Graffiti coatings offer one of the
most cost effective solutions to graffiti and other
contaminants, as once applied, they provide a permanent
protection which can be easily and repeatedly cleaned.”
The coatings have been developed to provide protection
to areas as diverse as leisure centres, car parks,
prisons and public transport infrastructure.
Applied to a non-combustible substrate such as stripped,
bare or newly plastered walls, Johnstone’s 2 Pack Anti
Graffiti Finish also gives a Class ‘O’ fire rating,
providing an important first line of defence against the
spread of fire.
On application the first stage provides a permanent,
tile-like surface enabling easy removal of contaminants
such as grease, paint, inks and marker pens. The second
stage graffiti remover is just as easy to apply and
removes all graffiti without leaving any shadowing.
“Unfortunately graffiti is commonplace in most of our
towns and cities. Though prevention would be the ideal
solution, the most effective deterrent at our disposal
is the swift removal of graffiti when and where it
occurs, as this stops areas becoming targeted as
graffiti ‘hot spots’.
“Johnstone’s anti-graffiti coatings allow surfaces,
whether internal or exterior to be protected so that
where graffiti does occur, it can be removed instantly
and effectively,” concludes Melanie Godley.
