Helmsman - Pool Safety Initiative - Partnership Announced

The leading manufacturer of changing room equipment – Helmsman – is pleased to announce a partnership with pool safety specialist SenTAG in an initiative which makes the obvious link between lockers and automated drowning alarms in a move which helps both security and safety.
"Helmsman is delighted to provide this unique opportunity to the leisure industry," explains Anne Rivett MBE, Helmsman’s managing director. "Teaming up with SenTAG allows us to not only provide clean, hygienic and secure changing facilities but overall pool safety and the potential to save lives."
The SenTAG wristband is worn by bathers. Should the bather break specific rules concerning DEPTH and MOVEMENT an alarm is sent immediately to the lifeguard, which allows the lifeguard to assess the situation and respond accordingly. This may involve simple management of who swims where or, more seriously, it raises the alarm if someone is motionless on the pool floor.
The SenTAG system is very new to the industry, with operational sites in Oxfordshire and South Wales. Both companies are actively looking for early adopters of this technology and are offering some attractive options in return.
"SenTAG is a powerful aid that saves critical time," explains Matthew Tully, sales manager at SenTAG. "It has been designed to work alongside lifeguards not to replace them. The automated system raises qualified alerts for the lifeguard to assess and react to accordingly. Most serious incidents involve pool staff becoming aware too late. Earlier detection can save lives and prevent lasting injuries that result from 'near drowning'. Our drowning alarm system does not replace supervisory staff but can alert them to the vast majority of missed incidents."
Anne Rivett explains why the two organisations have come together on this initiative. "The SenTAG wristband links with lockers as it combines safety with convenience. Each wristband can comfortably store a key or contain a ’chip’ to work with our keyless access control and proximity management systems. Technology is undoubtedly moving very fast and the leisure industry is bubbling with potential and I am confident that many leisure businesses will consider this at the very least."
With Helmsman and SenTAG by their side, centres have the ability to manage customers, provide cashless catering, oversee locker use, refurbish or replace existing changing and washroom areas and install vital drowning alarms. This will enhance customer security and confidence.
The customer knows their belongings are safe in the locker and their lives safer in the pool.
