CMS Acoustics Solutions - Regupol E48 scores top marks for Oak
Tree Developments
Ahead of the government’s Code for Sustainable Homes,
Oak Tree Developments has demonstrated how easy it can
be to achieve top marks for sound insulation by
installing Regupol E48 - a high performing screed
isolation material - at its new build apartment project
in Idle, West Yorkshire.
Available exclusively from CMS Acoustic Solutions,
Regupol E48 is the only Robust Detail (RD) approved
system for beam and block floors (E-FC-6), the floor
type installed by Oak Tree.
Although strictly a pre-completion testing project, as
not all internal walls were continuous from the
foundations to the roof, Oak Tree built to RD guidelines
to optimise acoustic performance.
By doing so, the Oak Tree apartments obtained an
airborne rating of 57dB and impact of 47dB. Under the
Code for Sustainable Homes, this would have achieved
four points – the maximum the code permits for sound
insulation performance.
Compatible with all types of floor screed, Regupol E48
is suitable for use in most new build constructions.
Simple to install, Oak Tree used Regupol E48 to isolate
200mm-deep Collier and Henry beams from the main
structure of the building.
Carl Darren of Oak Tree Developments, elaborates:
“Favouring the RD route to project completion, we used
Regupol E48 because it was the only under screed
treatment for beam and block floors which had RD
approval.
“Due to certain project irregularities, we were not able
to formally register with RD, but we did want to ensure
the dwellings would be fit for purpose and provide
future occupants with a decent standard of living.”
To achieve the overall high performance that Oak Tree
required, CMS Acoustics also recommended the
installation of Regupol 6010XHT acoustic isolating
strips. These were used to prevent flanking sound
transmission by isolating the internal blockwork and
perimeter construction from the structural steelwork.
David Holder, director of CMS Acoustic Solutions,
comments: “The test results achieved at the Oak Tree
apartments were well in excess of the minimum required
by Robust Details (50dB). Furthermore, achieving what
would have been rewarded top marks under the Code for
Sustainable Homes underlines the importance of planning
for any future development.
“This is a fine example of a project which has been
built against practical living criteria as opposed to
just meeting minimum regulation standards.”
Manufactured in Germany by BSW, the complete Regupol
range is available exclusively in the UK through CMS
Acoustics.
CMS Acoustics has a proven record in introducing new
solutions for Part E compliance. It was the first to
provide a UK Tiling Association (TTA) compliant acoustic
tiling system with Regupol Acousti-Tile, as well as
delivering access to the only RD approved system for
beam and block floors.
CMS Acoustics is part of the CMS Group, which also
includes CMS Vibration Solutions. Specialising in
anti-vibration and structural isolation products for
construction and industrial applications, CMS Vibrations
has access to the full range of anti-vibration and
structural isolation solutions through exclusive
partnerships with manufacturers and market-leading
systems.
