Burlington - Burlington at home the pinnacle of success
Burlington’s popular Broughton Moor stone has been
featured both internally and externally in the extensive
refurbishment of The Pinnacle - one of Manchester’s most
prominent office buildings located on the city’s
prestigious King Street.
Over 150m2 of honed Broughton Moor 600mm x 400mm x 12mm
natural stone floor tiles - specified to provide a
stunning contrast to existing Portland Stone - have been
used to create a stylish new entrance area to the
refurbished building.
Approximately 50m2 of the same Burlington stone in
various sizes and at 40mm thick has also been used as
cladding to grace both the interior and exterior walls
of the building. Alongside aluminium rainscreen and
aluminium curtain walling, together with elements of the
existing Portland stone façade, the refurbished building
creates a striking city landmark.
Specified by leading Manchester-based architects, Reid
Architects, for its client Property Alliance Group,
Burlington’s stone was chosen for this project based on
its outstanding aesthetic and technical qualities.
Architect Martin Kirkpatrick explains: “After visiting
Burlington’s Lake District quarry, individual blocks of
Broughton Moor stone with distinct veins and markings
were specifically handpicked by our client to provide a
dramatic finishing effect.”
Martin continues: “The refurbishment of The Pinnacle
also serves to underline the excellent working
relationship that Reid Architects continues to enjoy
with Burlington.”
The extensive refurbishment of The Pinnacle also
included the addition of two new storeys to the building
at roof level and which were specifically designed to
avoid breaching the height set by adjacent buildings.
The accommodation was also extended by cantilevering
extensions from each of the existing floors.
