Aico Ltd - New FireCap Socket/Switch Box Covers restore fore and
acoustic integrity of walls
New from Aico Ltd is the Firecap Fire
& Acoustic Socket / Switch Box Cover, designed to
restore the fire and acoustic rating of compartment
walls after a hole has been cut into it to install a
recessed socket or switchbox.
Building Regulations require the integrity of a wall to
be restored after holes are made in it, to prevent fire
ingress or sound bleeding
through. The new Firecap Socket / Switch Box cover
provides a safe, simple and economical way to meet
Regulations.
The new Firecap Cover can maintain the fire protection
performance of the wall and help prevent or delay the
spread of fire by up to two hours. It will even work
when fitted back-to-back in uninsulated walls. The
Covers have been independently tested to BS 476 Part 20
in an uninsulated timber and plasterboard wall
construction without failure in either insulation or
integrity.
As well as providing quality fire protection, Firecap
Covers provide an effective acoustic barrier to both
impact and airborne sounds. The material has been
independently tested to meet both BS EN ISO 140-3:1995
and BS 2750 Part 3 1995.
The new covers are pre-formed to fit the boxes and can
be installed in seconds. The simple mechanical fixing
means no glue or special tools are required - or
additional screws, drilling or supports. The covers can
be fitted in dusty conditions with no problems, and can
either be retrofitted to existing sockets and switches
or installed during wall construction.
A further advantage of Firecap Socket / Switch Box
Covers is that they replace the need for time consuming
plasterboard lining of new sockets and switches.
Firecap Covers are available to fit all common double
and single dry lining boxes and are the latest addition
to Aico's extensive Firecap range of passive fire
protection products.
