Vencel Resil - Where rafters are concerned Jabsqueezes into place
Speed and efficient installation combined
with thermal performance are two essential elements of any
roofing project and resulted in the specification of Jabsqueeze
by Vencel Resil at Beacon Hill School in Tyne and Wear.
This extensive new school building featured a 4,500m² pitched
roof that required a highly efficient method of insulation
between its rafters. The innovative design of the Jabsqueeze
expanded polystyrene panel means it has a series of pre-cut
slots arranged transversely along its length, top and bottom in
a concertina-style that can be compressed allowing the panel to
spring back to fit the gap between the rafters, enabling quick
installation.
National sales manager Neil Conway of Vencel Resil explains:
“Jabsqueeze was developed to suit the specific purpose of a
compressible roof-insulation panel for use between rafters. The
versatility and excellent insulation properties of the product
have resulted in it being widely used for many high profile
buildings.”
“The product is simple to install and provides excellent thermal
performance, which, when you consider that most buildings lose
around 35% of their heat through the roof, should help the
school make significant savings on their heating bills’. The
product is also a great way to reduce waste on site because the
panels, in most cases, can be squeezed into place without the
need for cutting thus eliminating unnecessary off cuts that
would normally end up in land fill.”
Jabsqueeze is manufactured from EPS 70, as defined in BS EN
13163 (classified Class E) and contains a flame retardant
additive. Available in a choice of three widths, the panels can
accommodate different joist spacings from 320 to 595mm. Smaller
joists can also be catered for by simply cutting the panel to
size and squeezing into place, making the product ideal for any
variations in rafter widths. Jabsqueeze is BBA certified and is
resistant against rot as well as being water proof. Because it
is extremely robust, the product should remain effective for the
life of the building.
Vencel Resil supplied the product through Sheffield Insulations
Group in Newcastle to John Flowers Roofing, on behalf of the
principal contractor Gordon Durham Ltd. The company provided its
bespoke design and survey service to ensure the product was
delivered to meet the required sizes and specifications required
by the contractor.
Paul Davison of John Flowers Roofing explains: “We have used
Jabsqueeze on many projects as it is easy to handle and enables
quick installation. We are delighted with the result, which
should provide much improved insulation for the school.”
Manufactured from expanded polystyrene, Jabsqueeze is
lightweight, easy to handle and cut on site and can be used for
a wide variety of building types.
