Toshiba Air Conditioning - Public School to public house - but full of impressive boys’ toys

An award-winning conversion of a traditional Dublin public (that is to say state-run) school into an ultra-modern leisure venue is the site of the first Toshiba ‘touch-screen’ control panel in Europe. The Old Boro’ building has a beautifully restored Victorian interior with wood-panelling, glass, old crystal and mirrors, but it also has a state of the art Toshiba air conditioning system supplied and project managed by Toshiba’s most experienced distribution company GT Phelan.
Three Toshiba SMMS units and eleven ducted indoor units form a touch-screen controlled heat pump system with two air-to-air heat exchangers also incorporated to accommodate the appropriate air changes. Heating and cooling is provided in an energy efficient manner. But the air conditioning system is just one part of the pub’s hi-tech armoury that provides the ultimate in customer service and efficiency of operation. There are LCD TV displays within the wall mirrors, touch screen TV controls, touch screen tills and lighting and security panels too.
“We were delighted that Toshiba’s offering could keep up with all the rest of the hi-tech kit that the client has included in this showpiece development”, explained Derek Phelan. The Toshiba touch-screen controller shows the whole air conditioning system in every part of the building. Control of every part can be carried out from behind the bar. Among the many features is the display of the set point for each area and real-time display of the system’s progress towards reaching or maintaining it, making the system exceptionally easy to understand for non-specialist staff.
The venue has two bars, lounge, snug, TV viewing, dance floor, kitchen servery, and patio areas. It holds 1400 people on busy nights.
