The Insider Property Awards North West 2007
took place on Thursday 17th May at Manchester Central, formally
the G-MEX Centre, as the top performers in the region’s property
sector were honoured for their achievements at Manchester
Central.
The Awards were attended by 800 guests from the property sector
who not only witnessed the elite performers in their field
receive accolades in areas such as property law and
regeneration, but also played their part in choosing the winners
of two awards, thanks to live interactive voting.
The guests selected Brendan Flood from Modus Properties as the
recipient of the Property Personality of the Year award,
sponsored by Lambert Smith Hampton. One of Flood’s successes is
the Grand Arcade in Wigan, and he has numerous mixed-use schemes
underway across the UK. Bruntwood was voted the winner of the
Property Deal of the Year award, sponsored by DWF. Bruntwood
secured Manchester’s largest letting of 2006: 120,000sq ft to
Network Rail at SquareOne.
It was the first time that the People’s Property Award in
collaboration with the BBC, had featured at the Insider Property
Awards North West, and it created quite a stir, as two buildings
were neck and neck all the way up to the voting cut-off point
yesterday afternoon. Over 30,000 BBC viewers and listeners voted
on the BBC website and ultimately the new parade ring and
grandstand at Aintree emerged as the best-loved building in the
North West.
Michael Taylor, Editor of North West Business Insider magazine,
commented:
“The Insider Property Awards is always a fantastic occasion. It
took on another dimension this year by inviting the public to
vote for their favourite building with the People’s Property
Award, and it was a huge success. It’s also great to see all the
property sector professionals who have achieved so much
throughout the year be acknowledged for their work.”
Heritage Works Buildings Preservation Trust collected the
Regeneration Award. They impressed the judges with a wide range
of projects, which included the rescue and regeneration of St
Peter’s and Murrays’ Mills in Ancoats. The Trust’s community
outreach programmes providing skills and work experience
sessions for young people were also praised.
Other achievers last night included Tameside Metropolitan
Borough Council who claimed the Public Sector Team of the Year
award, sponsored by Erinaceous. Bruntwood were also winners on
the evening, picking up the Commercial Developer of the Year
award, sponsored by Halliwells.
