RPA Architecture - RPA ARCHITECTURE’S FARNBOROUGH CENTRAL
PROJECT’S GETS PLANNING GREEN LIGHT
Farnborough Central, a 476-home residential Redrow
Homes (Southern) development, designed by RPA
Architecture (headed up by former RIBA Vice-President
Tim Forsyth) will start on site after Rushmoor Borough
Council resolved to grant planning permission subject to
the signing of a 106 agreement.
RPA Architecture, which specialises in the design and
delivery of residential developments, produced designs
for the scheme, which will comprise 400 townhouses and
76 apartments. The homes will be built on the former
Royal Aircraft Establishment (RAE) factory site in
Farnborough, which was in use from the 1900s until 1999.
RPA Architecture’s designs for the 5.16-hectare site
also include car parking, cycle parking and a children’s
play area.
The practice was required to carefully design a scheme,
which provided a mix of modern contemporary housing
whilst retaining significant historical buildings
surrounding a Grade One listed building housing the
establishment’s original transonic wind tunnel. RPA’s
designs also included the refurbishment of two original
1940s buildings on the site, which will be given a new
lease of life as apartments.
Chairman of RPA Architecture, Tim Forsyth commented: “It
has been a pleasure to work with Redrow Homes on this
project which has proved to be both challenging and
interesting for our practice due to both the historical
and geographical context of this site. “
